Methods£ºA total of 4335(1952 males and 2383 females) middle and high school students in Gwang-ju metropolitan city were enrolled for this study. Subjects were asked to complete a self-reported questionnaire, including measures of Korean Smartphone Addiction Scale(SAS), Conners-Wells¡¯ Adolescent Self-Report Scale(CASS), Dysfunctional Impulsivity Scale(DIS), Ego-Resilience Scale(ERS), Self-Esteem Scale(SES), and demographic variables including alcohol and smoking history.

Results£º511 subjects(11.8%) were categorized to smartphone addiction group, while 3824 subjects belonged to the ormal group. The smartphone addiction group showed that CASS, DIS scores and smoking, alcohol use were significantly higher than the normal group, while ERS and SES scores were significantly lower than the normal group. Using multiple regression analysis, the results showed that ADHD symptoms, impulsivity, low ego-resilience, low self-esteem were significant factors affecting smartphone addiction in adolescents.
